Lovely Rose Garden Perfume with Essential Oils

Love it or hate it, today is Valentine’s Day. A commercially driven day with good intentions that seems to leave most people struggling to prove the extent of their love. Are the gifts, cards, and lovely rose garden perfume enough? The teenage me was obsessed with the holiday yet as the years pass so do my fond feelings for this female driven holiday. Don’t get me wrong; I adore the family and friends whos love I am so blessed to feel every day. And I feel honored to celebrate their love, especially on Valentine’s Day in hopes that they feel my love year-round.

My Self Love Message

So now, on to the real message. SELF LOVE! Yes, in my opinion, the hardest type of love. The idea for this post struck me while I was teaching my teens yesterday. We were talking about conversations they have with their inner self. “I can’t believe I look like that” and “I’m so stupid” and “I mess everything up I should just quit.” Sadly I can relate so well. I wish I could tell them it ends yet it seems the focus just shifts.  This urge for perfectionism and “Pinterest worthy” moments stays in our head. All I want is for them to see how gorgeous, smart, and talented I think they are. But when was the last time you told YOURSELF you are beautiful, smart, and talented. It’s not always easy but here are a few of my favorite ways to practice self-love:

  • Connector.

    Positive Mantras

Each morning before getting out of bed, recite five positive self-love mantras. “I am great at solving complicated situations” or “I love my smile” or “I make the best breakfast around.” Whatever it may be big or small, the more you say it, the more you will start to believe it.

  • Connector.

    Treat Yourself

Take a moment and make something just for you! A bubble bath, a facial serum, a healthy snack, or this Lovely Rose Garden Perfume. Show yourself that you are worth it

  • Connector.

    Remember The Compliments

Start a compliment list! This one was hard for me but has become a “go-to” when I’m feeling down. Take a moment to write down the best compliment you have ever received and continue to add to the list when you receive a compliment big or small. It’s so easy to remember and hold on to negative words and let sweet, and positive words fly away.

These actions may feel weird or even selfish. We praise people for their kind actions to others. Subconsciously training us that others are more important. But if you continually give without nourishing your inner self you will eventually run out of things to give. So, on this Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to take a moment to take care of yourself. Because you are gorgeous, smart, talented…and totally deserving!!

Let’s Make Perfume

And now off my soap box and on to the Lovely Rose Garden Perfume. I have been playing with essential oil perfumes for some time now. I love mixing these precious plant oils to create my signature scent. Especially, since traditional scents are loaded with chemicals, can be expensive, and contain the 10 Worst Beauty Ingredients! A big “no-no” when trying to stay healthy. So here are my tips and trick to make a quick essential oil perfume and an easy recipe to get you started!

Even though I have done roll-ons and solids, there is just something about an atomizer that I just love. Grab these perfect atomizer bottles here from Amazon!
I mix my oils in a small amber glass bottle first. I add the oils in small amounts, close the lid, then roll the bottle in my hand for about 30 seconds to blend. Then flip the bottle upside down and let it sit for an hour (up to 24 hours) and then test. You can then decide which scent you would like to smell more and add accordingly.
To get a slight vanilla scent, I use Benzoin Resin from Mountain Rose Herbs. It’s an excellent extract for perfumes and soaps and is very affordable.
You do not have to use alcohol! To help make the scent last longer on your skin, I use witch hazel and rose hydrosol. I like to use Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel and Mountain Rose Herbs Rose Hydrosol. Some recipes call for alcohol or vodka. However, I find witch hazel and hydrosol gentler on my skin.
And finally, I did splurge on Rose Essential Oil from Young Living last year. And, OMG you will never smell an essential oil more beautiful than this sweet little (expensive) bottle. It takes the perfume over the top. If it’s out of your price range right now (I saved up for a year!!) then give Aura Cacia Rose Absolute a try. It’s premixed with jojoba oil and doesn’t have as strong of a smell. You may need to use a little more to get the same scent but it works great on a budget!
