I am so excited to share my Jump Start Green Smoothie recipe with you! It’s tropical, sweet, tangy, sour, and just plain DELICIOUS! If you have ever said, I don’t like the “green taste” please just try it (I hide it well). The green color…not much I can do about that. Other than remind you that green is the color of life, growth, harmony, and St. Patrick’s Day. So, Happy St. Patrick’s Day EVERY DAY!
But It’s Green
My first green smoothie was thanks to Kimberly Snyder and The Beauty Detox Solution. Her guidance and knowledge are amazing! If you haven’t read her books, I will encourage you to do so because they are life changing. Getting started, I had a few mental blocks to get over. I could be an insanely fussy eater and refused most veggies…especially orange and green. Yuck! To make the change I had to close my eyes, say “your body needs this,” and gulp it down. Funny, though, over time, I started to crave these green drinks. Especially when my body feels run down or is lacking nutrients. They are my “go to” and a huge part of my morning routine.
It’s like I said before, green is the color of life. Greens like kale, spinach, romaine, watercress, and collard greens all contain high volumes of minerals, enzymes, and vitamins inside their cell walls. These nutrients are vital for a healthy, fully vibrant life. Most days I do not walk around thinking “did I get my recommended amount of nutrients today.” My body is feeling it, though. Crying out for it actually but when the outside noises – work deadlines, family needs, stress – are all so pressing, our body’s voice can be drowned out. That’s why smoothies are so amazing! They are a quick way to get those fruits and veggies in your body without much thought. And for a nutritional bonus, consuming them through a smoothie helps “break down” the cell walls and makes the nutrients readily available for use.
In My Morning Routine, I talked about the importance of drinking a green smoothie first thing. Why may you ask? Good question. First is the nutrient boost I mentioned above. I like to give my body this boost before consuming any other food when my digestive system is primed and ready to get moving. “Good morning body! Hope this helps you have a great day.” Any fruits and veggies I eat after this are just a happy bonus. Second is the fiber. By consuming a smoothie (instead of a glass of juice), we are keeping the dietary fiber intact. Fiber is a healthy girl’s best friend! It strengthens the digestive system, keeps you regular, and my favorite part…it keeps you full throughout the morning. I don’t know about you, but I just don’t get that with a bagel!
Green Smoothie Time
So now let’s make this Jump Start Green Smoothie! I love how it is tangy and with a sweet aftertaste that reminds me of my favorite candy growing up. I was addicted to Sour Patch Kids and even though they are a NO GO nowadays this smoothie lets me relive the memories. Plus, the nutrient boost is incredible! This list is full of amazing nutrients your body can’t wait to get its hands on to help make you vibrant and healthy. And this list only covers a few of the top nutrients in each. What are you waiting on? Give it a try!
Jump Start Green Smoothie
This smoothie will last in the fridge for 1-2 days. If you are like me, you are always on the go and don’t have time to make a smoothie every morning. Plus, getting local organic produce is a bit of a chore in my neck of the woods. I would recommend freezing! I will freeze a batch of this on Sunday and then pull out what I want the night before to defrost. So much easier and your smoothie is waiting for you when you wake up! This recipe as written will fill five 8oz. mason jars.
