The kids in my neighborhood just completed their first full week of school. Goodbye summer…except we live in the South. Which means it’s going to be blazing hot for another month and a half at least! So why not start this weekend off with a little reminder of those fabulous beach vacations. It’s still hot enough that’s for sure. Time to cool off with my favorite Hawaiian Pina Colada!
Is It Healthy?
In an effort of full disclosure, I want you to know that this is not a healthy drink! Drinking this every day will not give you a flat stomach or renew your energy. Quite the opposite. It will, however, tickle your taste buds and sometimes that’s ok too!
Since this is a clean lifestyle blog I think it is important to mention my philosophy on sweet treats. I feel like completely ignoring the things that you enjoy just leads to resentment and frustration…for me at least. I also do not think that you should give in to all of your cravings! I like to find a happy medium. Which means occasionally serving sweet treats AT HOME so that I can control the ingredients. After reading what goes into a traditional Pina Colada I decided to keep this an at home treat. Some of the 10 Worst Beauty Ingredients were listed in the ingredient list! If I don’t want those on my skin then I definitely do not want to be drinking them.
Alcoholic vs. Virgin vs. Ingredients
I personally am a virgin Pina Colada girl. I got my fill of rum drinks in my 20’s and don’t love how my skin looks after drinking them. So I stay clear. But for my rum drinking friends, add 1.5 oz and you will be in heaven. Just close your eyes and imagine you are on a Caribbean beach somewhere. Purchasing the little umbrella isn’t necessary but completely worth it!
I also want to highly encourage you to get organic ingredients if at all possible. The canned coconut milk and cream of coconut can have some crazy chemicals in them. Purchasing organic helps you stay clear of these!
Hawaiian Pina Colada
So go ahead and indulge a little this weekend. Relax and reminisce of those white sand beaches and palm trees. And if you live close to me just sit outside. This sticky heat will take you back really quickly!
