This is why I ate pop-tarts for the majority of my 20’s. Finding time for “the most important meal of the day” can be tough. So, what is a person trying to stay healthy supposed to do? Make a plan of course! Breakfast is exactly what is says. Breaking the fast your body has been in for the last 6-8 hours. Make it easy on yourself by having a big bowl of my easy superfood breakfast ready to go. It will energize you and set your day on the right track! But first, I must confess where I have been…
What’s Been Going On?
For those of you who follow my little blog, you may have noticed I haven’t posted in a while. Nothing is wrong and (to my dismay) we haven’t been traveling the world. I have been doing my yearly “November Purge.” And if you haven’t done a purge you should try it. I plan to write more in detail once I finish but the general idea is to take an area of your life and remove anything unnecessary. Therefore, resulting in a more calm and balanced state. Clutter in any form can be taxing on our physical and emotional selves. By removing the clutter, we free our mind and bodies to relax. You can do a physical, emotional, or mental purge. Last year, I did a physical cleansing of lingering processed foods and purged my body through detox. This year, I chose to purge our home which has been a much bigger job than expected! It is amazing how much “stuff” you accumulate. But, once done, you have an incredible feeling of relaxation, freedom, and happiness! If you haven’t “purged” yet try it. Now, on to the easy superfood breakfast!
In a previous post, I talked about why it is so important to start your day off right. Every day I strive to make My Morning Routine consistently healthy which in turn helps me make healthy decisions throughout the day. Even though you may be just waking up for the day, your body is coming off a long night shift. While you are sleeping, your body is hard at work repairing, detoxing, and revitalizing your insides. Once you wake up, your body needs fuel and hydration to continue the job. Therefore, what you eat in the morning is so important. Try replacing a breakfast filled with added sugar, gluten, or chemicals for a breakfast filled with a balanced protein to carb ratio and super foods. You will start to see a huge difference in your energy level, no need for stimulants, and no late morning crashes.
Easy Super Food Breakfast
Chris originally came up with this recipe, and it has been a staple in our house every sense. The base of the bowl is a granola-y nut mixture that keeps well on your counter top. We will make a big batch on Sunday and have it sitting ready during the week. Since I am working to reverse adrenal fatigue, it is imperative that I eat within 30 minutes of waking. This easy superfood breakfast makes that a possibility…because there is no way I am pulling out pots and pans that early. I typically will have a big cup of my Jumpstart Green Smoothie and a bowl of this easy superfood breakfast, and then I’m ready to go.
But let’s not forget the best part. The TOPPINGS! Toppings are my job, and honestly, the sky’s the limit. You can add fruits, veggies, and tons of superfoods to make this bowl specific to your needs. Check below for my favorite topping options!
Then just add your favorite milk source (mine is almond milk or cashew milk), and you are ready for an easy breakfast that will energize your body throughout the day!
